15 minute phone consultation
Prior to booking a first session, I offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation. This provides an opportunity to briefly discuss your circumstances and ask any initial questions, so that you can make an informed decision about whether to proceed. There is no obligation to book a session following this call.
During this call, we may cover:
A brief outline of what has brought you to seek support.
An explanation of my therapeutic approach and how sessions are structured.
Practical matters such as availability, session format (in-person or online), and fees.
Any questions you may have about confidentiality or the referral process.
Next steps, should you wish to proceed with an initial consultation.

Individual Therapy Assessment
If you'd like to move forward after our initial call, the first paid session is an assessment. This gives us the space to properly get to know your story and what's brought you here, and lays the groundwork for a plan that's shaped around you.
During the assessment, we'll typically talk through:
What's been going on for you, and how it's affecting your day-to-day life.
A bit about your background: personal, relational, and professional.
Any previous experience of therapy or support, if relevant.
Your goals and what you are hoping to achieve through therapy.
A suggested way forward, including the approach I'd recommend and how often we might meet.
Individual Therapy Sessions
Following your assessment, we'll move into regular sessions, working together at a pace that feels right for you. Sessions are collaborative, structured around your goals, and draw on CBT and schema therapy depending on what suits you best.
In ongoing sessions, we might:
Explore patterns that keep showing up in your thoughts, feelings, or relationships.
Build practical strategies for managing stress, anxiety, or low mood day-to-day.
Work through specific situations or challenges as they come up.
Revisit and refine our shared understanding of what's underlying things, as it develops.
Check in on progress and adjust the plan together as needed.
Alongside working through what's brought you to therapy, sessions also focus on building resilience for the longer term. This might include developing coping skills you can draw on in everyday life, strengthening your ability to navigate setbacks, and growing a deeper understanding of yourself. Building on support well beyond our sessions.
There's no fixed programme, some clients find a few months helpful, others prefer to work together over a longer period. We'll keep this under review as we go.
FAQs
How many sessions will I need?
There's no single answer to this, as it really depends on you and what has brought you to therapy, how long-standing the difficulty is, and what you're hoping to get out of our work together. Some clients find that a shorter piece of focused work, over a few months, is enough to address what's going on. Others, particularly where we're working with longer-standing patterns, prefer a more gradual, longer-term process. We'll discuss this together at your assessment and is something we'll keep reviewing together as we go, so the number of sessions can flex as your needs do.
What if I need to cancel or rearrange?
Life happens, we can all find ourselves in that situation of not being able to make an appointment. Firstly, please let me know as soon as possible and we will try to find a different time slot, or move the session online. If you need to cancel or rearrange a session, I ask for at least 24 hours' notice wherever possible. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed appointments, are charged at the full session fee, as this time has been reserved for you and often can't be offered to another client at short notice.
If I ever need to cancel or rearrange a session on my end, I'll always give you as much notice as I can, and this won't be charged.
Can I switch between in-person and online?
Yes, many clients move between the two depending on what's going on for them, whether that's travel, ease, or simply what feels right on a given week. If you'd like to change format, just let me know ahead of your session and we'll sort it out together. The only thing I'd ask is that we keep some consistency where possible, as this tends to support the work.
