Anxiety

From generalised worry to more specific anxieties around performance, decision-making, or social situations, anxiety can show up in many forms, as constant background tension, as physical symptoms like a racing heart or disrupted sleep, or as avoidance of situations that feel too uncomfortable to face. It can also show up in more work-specific ways, such as anxiety around public speaking, perfectionism, or a persistent fear of getting things wrong.

CBT tends to be particularly effective here. It helps identify the specific thoughts and behaviours that keep anxiety going, such as avoidance, overthinking, or reassurance-seeking, and works to gradually shift them through practical, structured techniques. This might include examining and challenging unhelpful thinking patterns, building tolerance for uncertainty, or gently facing feared situations in a manageable way. Alongside this, I take a deeper look at what may be driving the anxiety in the first place, so the work addresses root causes and not just the symptoms on the surface.
